Book reviews from the week of July 1st

Hello! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend. I ended up out of town for a couple of days, so today I am playing catch up. Last week I read three books. One ARC, one book from my TBR, and one book (a new-to-me author) for a reading challenge. I wish I would have had more time to read, but my paying job took a whole lot of hours over the past two weeks. This week I hope to recover a little bit and do some serious reading. I hope my reviews give you some new books to add to your TBR.
Happy reading! The One I Stood Beside (Plain Daisy Ranch #2)
by Piper Rayne

ARC: Release Date-07/02/2024

#FriendsToLovers #MarriageOfConvenience #SmallTown #ARC

Written in first person from an alternating dual POV, book two in the series can be read as a standalone and ends with a HEA.

Jude and Sadie were everything I hoped they would be an more. I loved their history together. I adored how well they knew each other and how they had always supported each other in so many ways. Sadie is a gem. She rolls with the challenges that come her way as she and Jude enter a “fake” marriage to save her arm. It doesn’t take long before very real feelings are admitted, and they are forced to establish that it was never really fake at all.  Jude is a little grumpy, definitely private, and the quietest of the brothers. He has always borne responsibility for the family and is so internally strong. He also has some baggage from having his mother pass when he was so young.

This was heart-warming, romantic, and steamy at times. I adored this couple and couldn’t stop reading till they found their HEA. I am so excited about this series! Jude is going to be a hard hero to top though.

Tell Me No Lies (Sinners & Saints #2) by Janice Whiteaker

#MorallyGrayHero #RomanticSuspense

Book two in the interconnected series can be read as a standalone and ends with a HEA. It is written in first person from an alternating dual POV. The author offers some content warning at the front of the book, and sensitive readers should take those into consideration.

After meeting Piper in book one of the series, I knew her book would be something else. I was not disappointed. She is absolutely fierce, strong, independent, argumentative, and willing to fight hard for those that she cares about. Tate is cocky, grumpy, serious and an absolute cinnamon roll under his crusty exterior. He falls so hard and fast for Piper and I loved his deeply protective nature. Both Piper and Tate struggle with some baggage from their past that makes them a uniquely perfect fit for each other. Their characters develop and grow throughout the book until they get to a point where they grow together and are ready for a future completing each other.

There is plenty of heat, some suspense, and even a few laughs along the way. These men may do “bad” things, but they are always for the right reasons. I love this series so much!

Stars & Sparks Forever (Starlight Bay #7)

by Kara Kendrick

#Holiday #InstaLove #Novella #SingleDad #SmallTown

Written in first person from an alternating dual POV, this can be read as a standalone and ends with a HEA. This was my first book by this author, and I am excited to read more of her work.

Grant (36) is the single dad of 5-year-old Hudson. Lana (27) is a teacher who also teaches swimming lessons in the summer. Set in Cape Cod in the summer, this would be a good beach read.  Lana and Grant are instantly attracted to each other. They can’t stay away from each other, and they both feel like there is “more” to them than just a physical relationship. Hudson is adorable. I thought both characters were likable, and the setting was well described. My only wish is that it would have been longer with the characters more fleshed out and their relationship more detailed.

This is a fast and steamy summer holiday read.

A Tale of Three Signings (Spring 2024 book signing recap)

Over the past seven weeks I attended three book signings, each two weeks apart, I started at the Sweetgrass Author Event in Charleston, SC. From there I visited some family in West Virginia and Pennsylvania before my oldest daughter and I traveled to Ellicott City, MD, for Charm City Romanticon. After that, I returned home to Colorado before driving to Aurora for Readers Take Denver, where I was assisting Sara Madderson/Elodie Hart and also had a reader ticket. Below I will share some pictures and a recap of each signing as it was for me.  Sweetgrass was the fifth signing event I have attended that was put on by Southern Belles. It was also undoubtably the largest. With a stellar author lineup, there were a lot of tickets sold. In my opinion, probably too many. For a six hour signing, I was able to get to a shockingly few authors in my time there. They hit a few snags with this one.  First, let me talk about the city of Charleston.  Rich in history, with out of this world southern cu

Best Reads of 2023

2023 has come to an end and  as a result I have had some time to look back on my best reads from last year.  It is always fun to remember the fantastic books I read.  I love thinking about the worlds the authors created for my escape and enjoyment.  I also am able to see where I had some gaps in my reading.  I read most sub-genres and tropes, but I did not read a single fantasy romance last year.  That made me sad.  I will need to fix that in 2024.  My reading is typically on the lighter side of the spectrum.  Dark romance readers will only find a couple of books in that category here.  Most of my reads are also steamy, with open door scenes that are sometimes explicit and appropriate for mature readers.  My reviews are available on the blog if you need more details about what I liked about a book.  Also, I am including Amazon links to the books so you can read the blurb and decide for yourself if you think my favorite reads are books you might enjoy. Looking at the numbers at the end

Book reviews from the week of May 19th

Happy weekend. This week I read three ARCs and two books from my TBR.  All three ARCs will release the first week of June and the two books on my TBR have been on my kindle for a while. They served as perfect palette cleansers between these wonderful ARCs. Both books from my TBR offered heroines with disability. In The Marquess and I, Willow is blind. In Wolf Signs, the heroine is deaf. I felt like the authors handled both situations well within their stories and it made them interesting reads. Check out my reviews and add these to your TBR today if they grab you. I don't think you will regret it. Happy reading!
