Rafe

“Being here with you and seeing you up close all the time,” Clara carried on, rambling now, “it just ramped everything up and…” She broke off and swallowed, her eyes glazing over with humiliated tears. “Well, you won’t believe the… the depraved scenarios I’ve thought up about you. You’ve no idea all the dirty, dirty things you’ve done to me in my overactive imagination. Even the kitchen, for God’s sake, right there on the granite, which, to be frank, is disgusting from a food hygiene perspective.”

I couldn’t help but let out a short bark of laughter at that point which I managed to disguise as a cough when she shot a glance at me.

“And this office. Oh my God,” she said, tucking her hair behind her ears in another nervous gesture. “Your office and your desk… It’s just all so bloody masculine. Basically, I’m a total creeper. But don’t worry – I’ll find somewhere else to live immediately. I don’t want to make you feel uncomfortable in your own home any longer.” That final statement had me standing suddenly from my chair, causing her to finally break off her tirade.

Clara was not quitting her job, and she was not leaving this f**king house.

Not after that little speech. Not after the relentless, tortured thoughts I’d had of her over the last few weeks. There was no way I was letting Clara go anywhere anytime soon.

She was mine.

This confession made her mine.

The fact that I made her feel safe made her mine…

The Hotshot by Piper Rayne

Raising my cousin’s three kids wasn’t in my five-year plan.

Actually, it wasn’t in any plan.

One minute I’m a single labor and delivery nurse living a quiet life and the next, I’m navigating guardianship hearings, meltdowns, and homework I’m pretty sure requires a math degree.

Enter Hayes Carlisle.

My best friend’s older brother.

Chicago Colts newest catcher.

And the man I once kissed and immediately pretended I didn’t.

So, when the custody battle I’ve been dreading becomes a reality, I shouldn’t be surprised that Hayes swoops in with a wild idea—a fake relationship. According to him, pretending we’re together will polish his image and prove to the court I’m not taking on an instant family alone.

But pretending to be Hayes’ girlfriend is a terrible idea.

Because he remembers how to make me laugh.

Because he looks at me like our kiss wasn’t a one-time mistake.

Because the kids start asking him to read bedtime stories.

Because my heart starts wanting things my life doesn’t have room for.

I can manage the chaos. I can fight for these kids.

But pretending not to fall for Hayes Carlisle?

That might be the one thing I can’t do.

Move Me (Cherry Blossom Lake #6) by Tawna Fenske

Everyone knows my criminal past. It’s why Hazel Spencer hates me.
Might also be why she tore off my clothes and climbed me like a tree.
Hey, no judgment. I still can’t forget how she melted in my arms.
Turns out Hazel can’t forget, either, but for different reasons.
Our mind-blowing bang in her mansion’s foyer
left our small town’s famed ice queen knocked up.
It’s a shock to us both, but the truth?
There are worse things than having a baby with a smart, sexy woman I like.
A woman who zings from “come hither” to “get lost” so fast my head spins.
Can’t really blame her. Hazel’s dad messed her up good.
The prick earned his own prison jumpsuit and the ire of the Spencer-King family.
And family matters to Hazel.
It’s how I know she’ll be a great mom.
And I’m hellbent to prove I’m daddy material.
A guy who can handle crib building fiascos and baby announcements gone comically bad.
A guy who can make Hazel roar with unladylike laughter.
Someone who sees that behind Hazel’s cool front, she’s secretly tender.
I just need her to trust I can give her the family she’s wished for.
If she’ll only let go of my not-so-hot past.
One-click this hilarious enemies-to-lovers romance about a fling that forever links two complete opposites who might just make the perfect family.

Blurb:

Marrying my best friend in Vegas? Not exactly what I had in mind…

Alice Burke has been my best friend since college. Nothing like a girl puking all over you to cement your friendship. Distance never mattered. But getting traded to the Colorado Black Diamonds put us in the same city.

When I invite her along to Vegas to celebrate our Cup win, the last thing I expect is to wake up married to her. An annulment should be easy, right?

Wrong.

For Alice to get her dream shop, she needs to stay married for the next year. And to prevent a PR nightmare for the team, we have no other choice.

No one needs to know the truth. Just friends.

Except that truth gets harder to keep the more time we spend together. We’re only doing this to help each other. Nothing more. Until one night we cross the line.

This was only supposed to last a year. One taste, and I’m hooked. There’s no way I can give her up.

Maybe we can find a way to make this thing work.

We’re in this together, right?

It’s what any friend would do.

Blurb:

Waylon Ludlow was my first heartbreak—the boy I secretly loved from the sidelines while he ruled Wildhaven High and then disappeared without a word. Now he’s back, all smirks and whiskey-soaked charm, and with a baby no one knew about.

But I’m not the same quiet girl I once was. I’m fire now. Feral, stubborn, and one smart-ass comment away from punching him square in the jaw.

I live loud, love hard, and fight for what matters. And even though Waylon is a mess of mistakes wrapped in faded denim, my heart still skips like it’s seventeen every time he looks at me. And his little girl, well, she’s got me wrapped around her tiny finger.

We clash. We burn. We break things. But the more I push him away, the more I wonder—am I chasing the storm, or is it chasing me?

Penalty Play by Julia Connors

We were never meant to see each other again. It was a one-night, no-names fling in Bermuda . . . until the next day when I watch her walk down the aisle at our parents’ wedding and discover she’s now my stepsister.

We say it won’t happen again, but we give in to the temptation of “just one more time” . . . twice. We tell ourselves there’s no harm in it. Given my stepdad’s and her mom’s rocky marital histories, it’s unlikely we’ll ever see each other again.

Except, a few days later, I walk into the Boston Rebels’ offices to assure management that I’ll focus on nothing but hockey after I missed last season thanks to an injury. Instead, I find myself face-to-face with my stepsister, Morgan, who now works for the team.

At first, we pretend we’ve never met and try to steer clear of each other. But it’s impossible. Her friends are tangled up with my teammates. Her dad is my agent. She’s everywhere: at the rink, out with our friends, and in my head.

I have every reason not to pursue her. I tell myself I’ll stay away. And yet, I can’t get enough of her.

So we make a deal: a secret friends-with-benefits arrangement—no feelings, no commitment.

The more I truly get to know her, though, the more I can’t imagine my life without her. But forever is the one thing I promised myself I’d never give anyone again.

Just Breaking the Rules by Lauren Blakely

Breaking the rules has never tasted so good…

How did I end up opening a bakery with my brother’s hockey star best friend?

Start with one cake disaster, add a dangerously hot pro athlete, and mix in a steamy encounter that definitely wasn’t supposed to happen.

But when the sexy, single dad hockey player saves me from a cake contest catastrophe, I do something reckless: ask him to go into business with me.

I’m out of options—no loan, no backup plan—and this bakery is my last chance to prove I’m more than my past mistakes.
Now we’re partners, and we agree that one moment up against the door stays in the past.

Not that Corbin makes it easy.
He sends flowers when I’m down.
Braids my hair before we bake.
Gives me his jersey to wear to games.
Shows up late to test recipes… then stays way too long.

When we find a box of old love letters tucked inside a bakery cupboard, suddenly, our story feels just as risky—and just as impossible to resist.

Maybe some rules are meant to be broken. No matter the cost to our dreams.

On Borrowed Time (Blossom Peak #2) by Harlow James

Blurb:

Being a nanny for a newly single dad wasn’t the job I applied for when I decided to lick my wounds in Blossom Peak.

But showing him my bare backside wasn’t in my plans either.

When the pursuit of my dream career seemed unattainable, instead of going home and proving my parents right, I made a detour to the small mountain town I remember visiting as a kid.

I just wanted a waitressing job to make some extra money while I figured out my next steps.

But then the lumberjack of an owner begged me to help him with his three month-old daughter that he just found out existed, and I couldn’t resist his plea.

Or his massive physique—the one I saw every detail of when he appeared shirtless in front of me three times in the first week.

The problem with living together though is there’s little space, especially when my boss is so closed off that he’s like a nut I want to crack open.

And when I do, he steals the breath from my lungs—and reignites my creativity as well.

But I gave myself a deadline to figure out what’s next.

Nowhere in that plan though did I account for falling for Henley Clark.

Turns out the heart doesn’t care, even when you’re on borrowed time.

Book reviews for books read May 3rd - May 10th

Happy weekend!  I read two ARCs this week. They were both very different and both very good. Marika Ray's new book is going to be the perfect summer read. Take it to the lake or the beach and fully enjoy the quirky romance between Maple and Holt. I promise you will adore the meddling seniors along the way. Then I read an arc by a debut author and it knocked  my socks off. When was the last time you got a book hangover from a brand new author? Yeah, it is a rare thing but it happened to me this week.  Check my reviews and add these to your TBR. You wont be sorry. Until next time, happy reading. Anchored by Marika Ray ARC: Release Date- 05/13/2025 #FakeRelationship #ForcedProximity #SmallTown #SecondChance #ARC I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book. This standalone is written in first person from an alternating dual POV and ends with a HEA. Maple (32) is having a crisis of confidence due to many factors when sh...

Book reviews for books read May 11th-25th

I read three ARCs and 2 books from my TBR in the last 2 weeks. I feel good about that considering that life at home has been pretty full lately. May has been an excellent reading month for me. There are so many good releases right now, it is impossible for me to keep up. These are all worth adding to your TBR. Check my reviews and add them to your list. Until next time, happy reading. Built To Last (Park Avenue Promise #3) by Lexi Blake ARC: Release Date- 05/27/2025 #EnemiesToLovers #Celebrity #Workplace  #ARC I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book. This is the third book in the series, and it is written in first person from Harper’s POV. This book is driven heavily by dialogue, and I personally did not miss having the male POV. Though it fully contains the love story of Harper and Reid, I think readers will gain the most value from reading this series in order. The friendship and found family relationship between Ivy, ...

Book reviews for books read September 21st-30th

This review post is late due to a family emergency that happened about ten days ago now. I feel like I am finally getting my self together a little bit today and was able to put this together finally. During the last week of the month, I read one ARC, one book for book club, and three smutty novellas. Check out my reviews and add so books to your TBR today. My month in review. September turned out to be a good reading month for me. Most of the ARCs that I read that released in September, I actually read in August. That freed up some time to read from my TBR and finish two reading challenges. During the last week of the month, I finished the A to Z reading challenge. Earlier this month, I completed the B.A.N.G. Book Club reading challenge. I also took this as an opportunity to read new-to-me authors and fit in several novellas. Out of the 23 books I read and the 2 I did not finish, I read 19 new-to-me authors! That has to be a record for me. There is a place for smutty insta-love ...
