Book reviews from the week of March 3rd

Happy weekend! I am running behind this week because the hubby and I took a little weekend getaway. I can't apologize though, because couples need to make time for each other in the busy life we have.

I read two ARCs this week and finished the the last two books currently available in Janice Whiteaker's Big Northwest series. These were all good books that I did not want to put down.  Check out my reviews and add some books to your TBR.

Just One More Moment (Sterling Family #1)

by Carly Phillips

ARC: Release Date- 03/12/2024

#Billioniare #Workplace #ForcedProximity #FamilySeries #ARC

4 STARS

Book one in an all-new spin-off series, this can be read as a standalone.  It is written in third person and ends with a HEA.

I really enjoyed Raven’s character. She is limited by her circumstances, yet still jumps at the chance to be with Remy. I loved her bravery, her determination, and the way she stands up for herself.  Remy is a wonderful hero. He falls fast and hard for Raven. He had been crushing on her for a couple years, so when they finally got together, he was bound to fall. I loved his intelligence, his protective attitude, and his family relationships. He has some baggage, but it doesn’t hold him back when it comes to loving Raven.

Steamy at times, the story also has elements of danger. On a bigger scale, it is about family and the relationships therein. I loved these two together and I can’t wait for the rest of Remy’s family to find their happy endings.

The Almost Romantic (How To Date #3) by Lauren Blakely

ARC: Release Date- 03/14/2024

#FakeRelationship #MarriageOfConvenience #SingleDad #SingleMom #ARC

5 STARS

Book three in this series can be read as a standalone. It is written in first person from an alternating dual POV and ends in a HEA.

Elodie and Gage have an immediate attraction to each other. Their chemistry and connection are strong. I loved the way they flirted with each other and the things they had in common. Elodie is driven and creative and is struggling with all the doubts that many parents struggle with as she raises her teenage sister. Gage is a single dad of an adorable and forward thinking 11-year-old daughter. Both girls were wonderful characters. They each proved what a good job Gage and Elodie were doing raising them.

I loved the premise of this book.  The marriage of convenience trope has always been a favorite of mine. Gage is a very self-aware hero who values authenticity, honesty, and owning his feelings. He doesn’t hesitate to go after Elodie and what he wants with her. From the business relationship to more, he goes for it. Elodie tries to keep herself from falling for Gage, but that is an impossible task.  I loved the sex positivity in the story.  I loved the hot times between them. Elodie has her own sense of style that was fabulous and distinctive. There were many laugh-out-loud moments: from their banter to events that lead to their first date, to more. This was a thoroughly enjoyable read and I bet the audio is going to be incredible. It was classic LB goodness and I loved it.

Charlie (Big Northwest #3) by Janice Whiteaker

#Celebrity #Paranormal #SmallTown #Virgin

5 STARS

Book three in the series is written in third person and ends with a HEA. Though this book fully contains the love story of Charlie and Adam, this series is best read in order.

First, I should state that Charlie is my favorite sister so far. I love her insatiable desire to learn. I love her willingness to do hard work. I love her fearless pursuit of her happiness. When Adam arrives back in town, Charlie considers if he could help her attain some happiness and goes for it. Adam is dealing with his own baggage, but he falls hard for Charlie. I adore what a good man he is. I love that he quickly develops feelings for Charlie and won’t settle for less than a real relationship. I adored his willingness to step up and remove some of Charlie’s burden.

This book has some suspense in the plot along with a light paranormal aspect. Adam and Charlie have some scenes that are both steamy and tender. I love that they both find what they were missing in their individual lives when they come together. It is my favorite book of the series so far.

Sam (Big Northwest #4) by Janice Whiteaker

#Bodyguard #Virgin #Paranormal #SmallTown

5 STARS

Book four in the series is written in third person and ends with a HEA. Though this book fully contains the love story of Sam and Tate, this series is best read in order.

Tate is a fantastic hero. With a soft spot a mile wide for his precious niece, and close familial relationships with his parents, he is a little bit of a conundrum to Sam and her sisters. Sam, being the oldest, has carried so much responsibility for her sisters. She has been strong, and brave, and is now just a little bit broken. The attraction between Tate and Sam is undeniable.  They tried to avoid a relationship, but it was truly unavoidable. I adore the immediate bond between Sam and Lily. I love that with Tate, she considers having a family of her own and a romantic relationship for the first time. Tate is uber-protective and can’t imagine his life without Sam. He is my favorite hero of the series. I love that he has internal struggles and a little loss of control when it comes to his feelings for Sam. Some of his struggles even made me giggle.

This was the steamiest book in the series so far. These two are HOT. I love the continued emphasis on blood and found family and the roles they play in the characters’ healing and growth. The suspense element I expect from this author is well crafted and even came with a surprise or two along the way.

I loved this and cannot wait for the next book in the series.

A Tale of Three Signings (Spring 2024 book signing recap)

Over the past seven weeks I attended three book signings, each two weeks apart, I started at the Sweetgrass Author Event in Charleston, SC. From there I visited some family in West Virginia and Pennsylvania before my oldest daughter and I traveled to Ellicott City, MD, for Charm City Romanticon. After that, I returned home to Colorado before driving to Aurora for Readers Take Denver, where I was assisting Sara Madderson/Elodie Hart and also had a reader ticket. Below I will share some pictures and a recap of each signing as it was for me.  Sweetgrass was the fifth signing event I have attended that was put on by Southern Belles. It was also undoubtably the largest. With a stellar author lineup, there were a lot of tickets sold. In my opinion, probably too many. For a six hour signing, I was able to get to a shockingly few authors in my time there. They hit a few snags with this one.  First, let me talk about the city of Charleston.  Rich in history, with out of thi...

Best Reads of 2024

It is 2025! It feels like 2024 flew by.  This year's "best of" list is a little different.  In part this is due to time constraints and in part due to the fact that some trope categories have a LOT of excellent reads.  I just could not narrow them down to even eight for the graphics. I obviously have my favorite tropes, as this list will tell you. If you don't see a trope here on this list, it may be that I read one and it just wasn't quite a five star read for me. Most of the books I read are either four or five star reads. I have found what I like, and I tend to stick to it. You can search the labels on the main page of my blog or search in the general search bar to pull up books from another category and read my reviews. If a book is on this list, it was a five star read for me. That means I loved it, I found no major flaws in timeline, editing, or characters, and I would want to read it again. The links I am including are for Amazon out of ease, but several o...

Book reviews from the week of May 19th

Happy weekend. This week I read three ARCs and two books from my TBR.  All three ARCs will release the first week of June and the two books on my TBR have been on my kindle for a while. They served as perfect palette cleansers between these wonderful ARCs. Both books from my TBR offered heroines with disability. In The Marquess and I, Willow is blind. In Wolf Signs, the heroine is deaf. I felt like the authors handled both situations well within their stories and it made them interesting reads. Check out my reviews and add these to your TBR today if they grab you. I don't think you will regret it. Happy reading! My Royal Showmance (Park Avenue Promise #2)  by Lexi Blake ARC: Release Date- 06/04/2024 #Royal #SecretRomance #ARC Book two in the series is written in first person from Anika’s POV and ends in a HEA. It can be read as a standalone. If you love reality dating shows like The Bachelor, you are going to love this book. Luca, King of Ravalia, is looking for...
