Book reviews for the week of October 15th

Happy weekend!  This week I read two ARCs and a novella.  The ARCs were both wonderful. The novella was a quick read that was a pleasant surprise.  I am traveling and visiting with family right now, so that has been my priority this week.  Hug your loved ones. Read books that make you happy.  Live the life you have.  I hope my reviews give you some insight into these reads that brightened my week and build your TBR.  Until next time, happy reading.

Yours To Forget (Dixon Creek Ranch #4) by Emily Silver

ARC: Release Date 10/19/2023

4.5 STARS

Book four in the series can be read as a standalone and ends with a HEA.  It is written in first person from an alternating dual POV.

I have been waiting for Logan’s story.  I am so happy for him to finally have his HEA.  And after everything he has been thorough, I was thrilled that it was a low angst read for him to have his happy ending with Audrey.

I loved getting to know Logan better.  Audrey is also a driven athlete recovering from an injury.  They have a history and a deep understanding of one another.  Once the confusion about their previous break up is cleared away, they can only move forward on the feelings they both continued to have.  This was a fairly quick read, but it felt complete.  There is plenty of heat and all the feels.  The only thing I felt was missing was a more detailed timeline of when their relationship took place and how long they were actually apart.  We know Audrey is 35 when this book takes place and I struggled to try to remember how old Logan would be at this point. (Maybe 30 or 32?)  That said, there was a lot to love.  I love the competitiveness between Audrey and Logan.  I love how they support each other in achieving their dreams.  I love the friendships they share with other athletes.  And of course, Logan’s family is always a joy.  The sibling banter was wonderful.

This was a wonderful way to wrap this series that was full of characters to remember.

One Chance (Sullivan Family #3) by Lena Hendrix

ARC: Release Date- 10/23/2023

#FriendsToLovers #SmallTown #Firefighter #FirstResponder #FamilySeries #ARC

5 STARS

Book three of the Sullivan family series can be read as a standalone and ends as a HEA.  There is an underlying mystery that is running across the series regarding the rivalry between the Sullivan and King families.  Readers may want to read the series in suggested order to avoid spoilers.  It is written in first person from an alternating dual POV.

Playboy Lee finally gets his happy ending with Annie.  She has been his best friend for years. When they both admit their feelings, there are not just sparks but flames involved.  Lee is a complex character who has buried his pain and guilt under a happy-go-lucky outward appearance.  One of the few people who really know him, and his internal angst, is Annie.  Annie has been there to clean up a lot of Lee’s messes over the years.  She would rather have only his friendship if allowing her true feelings means she loses the only family she has ever really known.  I loved both characters.  They are layered with hurt, trust, friendship, and fear of the unknown. In the process of trying to do the right thing, they have stayed apart when they could have been together all along.

They have a lot of heat between them.  In part, this is due to the trust and friendship that already exists before they move to that level.  Lee is a seriously dirty talker.  Annie was all-in for that and so was I.  Break out the fan, because these two can’t keep their hands off each other once they allow themselves the right to touch each other in that way.

Outtatowner is a wonderful small town full of all the fun shenanigans one would expect.  The Sullivan family is finding their feet and their happy endings.  It feels like every book by this author just gets better and I am seriously excited to see what happens next.

Man of the Month Club: September
by Ann Omasta and Callie Love

#LoveTriangle #SingleMom #Novella

4 STARS

Written in first person from an alternating dual POV, this novella can be read as a standalone and ends with a HEA.

Marietta is a single mom who has recently been rescued from an abusive ex.  Chance is a big, burly, softy of a guy who has been hurt but is looking for forever.  Together, they have an instant attraction that eventually leads to some hot times.

Easy to read seasonal fun, this novella has some You've Got Mail vibes that were adorable.  I loved the characters and their willingness to look for love.  No angst and steamy times made this an easy and entertaining read.

A Tale of Three Signings (Spring 2024 book signing recap)

Over the past seven weeks I attended three book signings, each two weeks apart, I started at the Sweetgrass Author Event in Charleston, SC. From there I visited some family in West Virginia and Pennsylvania before my oldest daughter and I traveled to Ellicott City, MD, for Charm City Romanticon. After that, I returned home to Colorado before driving to Aurora for Readers Take Denver, where I was assisting Sara Madderson/Elodie Hart and also had a reader ticket. Below I will share some pictures and a recap of each signing as it was for me.  Sweetgrass was the fifth signing event I have attended that was put on by Southern Belles. It was also undoubtably the largest. With a stellar author lineup, there were a lot of tickets sold. In my opinion, probably too many. For a six hour signing, I was able to get to a shockingly few authors in my time there. They hit a few snags with this one.  First, let me talk about the city of Charleston.  Rich in history, with out of this world southern cu

Best Reads of 2023

2023 has come to an end and  as a result I have had some time to look back on my best reads from last year.  It is always fun to remember the fantastic books I read.  I love thinking about the worlds the authors created for my escape and enjoyment.  I also am able to see where I had some gaps in my reading.  I read most sub-genres and tropes, but I did not read a single fantasy romance last year.  That made me sad.  I will need to fix that in 2024.  My reading is typically on the lighter side of the spectrum.  Dark romance readers will only find a couple of books in that category here.  Most of my reads are also steamy, with open door scenes that are sometimes explicit and appropriate for mature readers.  My reviews are available on the blog if you need more details about what I liked about a book.  Also, I am including Amazon links to the books so you can read the blurb and decide for yourself if you think my favorite reads are books you might enjoy. Looking at the numbers at the end

Book reviews from the week of May 19th

Happy weekend. This week I read three ARCs and two books from my TBR.  All three ARCs will release the first week of June and the two books on my TBR have been on my kindle for a while. They served as perfect palette cleansers between these wonderful ARCs. Both books from my TBR offered heroines with disability. In The Marquess and I, Willow is blind. In Wolf Signs, the heroine is deaf. I felt like the authors handled both situations well within their stories and it made them interesting reads. Check out my reviews and add these to your TBR today if they grab you. I don't think you will regret it. Happy reading!
