Author Spotlight: Twenty Questions With Emily Silver

Author Emily Silver has a new release in her Dixon Creek Ranch series today.  I felt like this would be the perfect opportunity to ask her some questions and give readers the opportunity to get to know her and her books better.  She kindly agreed and I am thrilled to have her as the first author in this new feature on my blog.

Blurb:

He’s my best friend’s older brother. I have no business having these feelings for him. But I do.

I’ve had a crush on Mason Winchester for as long as I can remember. To him, I’ve never been anything more than a family friend. His little sister’s annoying friend.

But what happens when he needs a nanny for his daughter for the summer? He calls me.

That’s when things change.

Suddenly there are feelings. Real feelings I shouldn’t be having.

I’m only staying in this small town a few more months, so what could a little fling hurt? Work this out of our system. Easy. No one has to know.

Except when those feelings start to grow. Am I willing to lose my best friend over a summer fling?

This is bad. Very bad.

But…something this wrong shouldn’t be this good, right?

Summer isn’t the only thing heating up in Dixon

My Review:

#AgeGap #BestFriendsBrother #SmallTown #SingleDad #Nanny #ARC

5 STARS

Book two of the series can be read as a standalone and ends with a HEA.  It is written in first person from an alternating dual POV.

Ivy has a summer off between college and pursuing an internship at a gallery in Seattle over twelve hours away.  She offers to help Mason, the oldest brother of her best friend, watch his little girl, Willow, over the summer before she goes.  I love that Ivy has had a secret crush on Mason for a long time, yet never acted on it.  I love that Mason has seen Ivy as more than his sister’s friend for a few years.  Despite their 10-year age gap, these two fit together perfectly.  Ivy can offer Mason a comfort he didn’t realize he was missing while forming a beautiful friendship with Willow.  Mason appreciates Ivy for everything she is.  The way she acts with his daughter completely melts him.  Seriously, he never stood a chance.

This was a steamy read with all the heart-melting moments I needed.  I am loving this small-town series.  I cannot wait for the next book.

I met Emily for the first time in February 2022 in Nashville at Music City with the Belles.  She was attending as a reader with author Maria Luis and friend Tina Snider.  I was traveling alone and they welcomed me to join their group the whole weekend.  Meals, drinks, lines, and just hanging out gave me an opportunity to get to know all of them and I am now lucky to count them as friends.  I discovered Emily as an author that weekend.  As a person, I appreciated her sarcastic wit, fearless energy, and confidence.  I truly enjoyed getting to know her.  Before we left Nashville, we exchanged numbers and kept in touch.  I went home and started reading her books.

In October 2022, Emily attended her first signing as an author at the Route 66 Author Event.  My husband attended with me and was able to get to know Emily as we visited.  He had a sudden understanding of the book community and made the comment that he saw that I found my people in Romancelandia.  It was important to me to be there and celebrate her success.  At that point, her family was not aware that she was a published author.  By this time I was on her ARC team and loving the opportunity to read her books before they were published and help get her books in the hands of more readers.

In March 2023 we met up again as she attended as a signing author at Readers Take Denver.  Spending time with her, supporting her success, and admiring her growth as an author was a fun experience.  She and Tina welcomed another reader friend who was with me to the group as we shared meals, laughter, and observations of the event.

Emily and Tina are currently planning an author signing (see details below) in Indianapolis, Indiana, this November.  The HEA Reader Event will be held the first time November 4th, and I will be attending as a volunteer.  There are still tickets available and they have an amazing lineup of authors planned. If you haven't attended a signing yet, you should jump at the opportunity to attend this one.

Emily is a strong supporter of the LGBTQA+ community and has written one sapphic romance (so far), two male/male novels, and a male/male novella in addition to her more traditional romances.  All of her books are steamy and have strong themes of family: both born and found. I can always count on her to give me a book with strong characters, interesting stories, and the right amount of heat.

Twenty Questions with Emily Silver

1.       What is your favorite food?
Tacos with chips and guacamole!

2.       Do you have a favorite color?
Blue

3.       What time of day do you prefer to write?
I’m an afternoon writer. My brain isn’t fully awake in the morning to be writing.

4.       What does a day in the life of Emily look like?
On a non-real job day, I’ll wake up, check social media, get my daily Diet Coke, do some admin stuff, make some graphics, go for a walk, make some more graphics, start to write, get distracted and make pretty teasers for what I just wrote, and then finish writing and then read or go out with friends.

5.       Are you a plotter or a pantser?
Plantser…I have the general plot ready to go when I write, but sometimes my characters take me on a completely different road and I go with it. It’s their world, I’m just living in it!

6.       What is your favorite part of author life?
Meeting and connecting with readers—especially at signings! I love hearing from readers about how much they connected with my book and characters. It’s the most rewarding thing for me and honestly makes my day every time I get a message from a reader.

7.       It is Pride Month and you have a few books that showcase LGBTQ+ love.  Do you have a favorite?
That’s like asking me to pick a favorite child! I love them all, but I really do love Alex and Carter. Alex having to hide who he is because of his sport rings true for a lot of people today, and I loved getting to highlight his story.

8.       What books by other authors do you recommend in this category?
Eden Finley, Saxon James and Tal Bauer are some of my favorite MM authors. Alexandria Bellefleur writes Sapphic/pan/bi romances and they are phenomenal!

9.       What kind of books are your favorite to read? (Contemporary, historical, fantasy, sci fi, monster, paranormal, etc.)
Contemporary is my favorite!

10.   Do you have a favorite trope to read or write? Why is it your favorite?
Enemies to lovers is my FAVORITE! I love the tension between the two of them and when it explodes?? Sooo good!

11.   Do you have a favorite character from any of your books?
Ellie from Royal Reckoning will always be one of my favorites.

a.       What makes him/her your favorite?
I love Ellie’s fierce determination to go after what she really wants in life. Even though she’s in line for the crown, she doesn’t accept that as her life and finds what she truly does want out of life.

12.   What is your favorite part of a book to write?
I love writing the spicy scenes…it’s always so much fun for me, especially coming up with new and fun ideas ;)

13.   What is the hardest part to get through?
The middle…sometimes it is hard to get the characters to do what you want them to do!

14.   Do you draw inspiration from real life?
Yes! My Dixon Creek Ranch series was inspired by a trip to the Tetons and a family trip to Montana. I love drawing inspiration from real life!

15.   What inspired you to write Mason and Ivy’s story?
I’ve always wanted to do a single dad romance, and Mason struck me as the perfect guy for it. Kind of grumpy, but loves his daughter! And I wanted someone strong enough for him, and when I started writing Gemma’s story, I knew it would be her!

16.   What made you decide to write a series set in Idaho?
After visiting the Tetons in 2020, I knew I wanted a book set there. The small town we stayed, and visiting Jackson was absolutely gorgeous and I wanted my series there!

17.   I know you have traveled extensively, have you visited that area?
Yes! I would love to go back and stay in Jackson again. It’s such a pretty area!

18.   What is your favorite part of writing an interconnected series?
I love seeing where the characters are from the other books. They got their HEA, but you still get to see them being happy together.

19.   What is the hardest part of writing an interconnected series?
Sometimes I mix up the little details or timelines. Thankfully, I have amazing editors who catch this for me. I don’t know why, but I have the worst time with eye color :P

20.   What’s next after Dixon Creek Ranch?
It’s going to be a busy few months for me! Aside from working on the HEA Reader Event signing I’m hosting in Indy in November, I have French and German translations coming out this summer/fall, and I also have audio in the works too! I have another standalone Sapphic romance that I’ll be working on this summer, and then a book that I’m writing in a series with other authors that will come out next summer. After that, I’ll be starting on a brand new series that I’m really excited for! I don’t want to give too much away, but we’re already met the main characters…and it’s not who you’d think!

Book reviews for books read May 3rd - May 10th

Happy weekend!  I read two ARCs this week. They were both very different and both very good. Marika Ray's new book is going to be the perfect summer read. Take it to the lake or the beach and fully enjoy the quirky romance between Maple and Holt. I promise you will adore the meddling seniors along the way. Then I read an arc by a debut author and it knocked  my socks off. When was the last time you got a book hangover from a brand new author? Yeah, it is a rare thing but it happened to me this week.  Check my reviews and add these to your TBR. You wont be sorry. Until next time, happy reading. Anchored by Marika Ray ARC: Release Date- 05/13/2025 #FakeRelationship #ForcedProximity #SmallTown #SecondChance #ARC I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book. This standalone is written in first person from an alternating dual POV and ends with a HEA. Maple (32) is having a crisis of confidence due to many factors when sh...

Best Reads of 2024

It is 2025! It feels like 2024 flew by.  This year's "best of" list is a little different.  In part this is due to time constraints and in part due to the fact that some trope categories have a LOT of excellent reads.  I just could not narrow them down to even eight for the graphics. I obviously have my favorite tropes, as this list will tell you. If you don't see a trope here on this list, it may be that I read one and it just wasn't quite a five star read for me. Most of the books I read are either four or five star reads. I have found what I like, and I tend to stick to it. You can search the labels on the main page of my blog or search in the general search bar to pull up books from another category and read my reviews. If a book is on this list, it was a five star read for me. That means I loved it, I found no major flaws in timeline, editing, or characters, and I would want to read it again. The links I am including are for Amazon out of ease, but several o...

Book reviews for books read May 11th-25th

I read three ARCs and 2 books from my TBR in the last 2 weeks. I feel good about that considering that life at home has been pretty full lately. May has been an excellent reading month for me. There are so many good releases right now, it is impossible for me to keep up. These are all worth adding to your TBR. Check my reviews and add them to your list. Until next time, happy reading. Built To Last (Park Avenue Promise #3) by Lexi Blake ARC: Release Date- 05/27/2025 #EnemiesToLovers #Celebrity #Workplace  #ARC I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book. This is the third book in the series, and it is written in first person from Harper’s POV. This book is driven heavily by dialogue, and I personally did not miss having the male POV. Though it fully contains the love story of Harper and Reid, I think readers will gain the most value from reading this series in order. The friendship and found family relationship between Ivy, ...
