Book reviews for the week March 1st through March 4th

This week I decided to split my posts so that February and March were separate.  Look for my most recent blog post to catch reviews from the beginning of last week.

The beginning of March brought me a windfall of ARCs and I was able to read three of them so far.  Gina Azzi released her newest book on 03/02/23 and I was able to finish the ARC right before.  Kennedy L. Mitchell will release her newest on Wednesday.  If you love a morally gray hero and some suspense, check out my review.  You might love this one as much as I did.  Finally, I finished my week with Kait Nolan's next release.  "Grump in a Kilt" is a fun and low angst romantic read with mature characters.  All three of these ARCs were five star reads for me, even though they are all very different kinds of romance. I love a week with variety.  Check these out and add them to your TBR.

I wish everyone a week full of good books and happy reading.

Bad Boy's Downfall (Tennessee Thunderbolts #6)

by Gina Azzi

ARC: Release Date- 03/02/2023

#Sports #SurpriseBaby #Virgin #ARC

5 STARS

Book six in this series can be read as a standalone and ends with a HEA.  It is written in first person from an alternating dual POV.

This is actually the first book I have read from this series.  Though it is obvious that other players mentioned in this book found love over the course of the series, it never detracted from this book.  River and Lola were so fun to read.  He has been the angry, aloof, bad boy on the team.  Lola, as the daughter of one of his teammates, is the good girl.  She is smart, driven, and a little nerdy.  I adored her character.  In her senior year of college, she is facing all the changes that are coming as she figures out what she wants for her future.

River and Lola are so good together.  I love how she sees the real man under his emotional armor. They have plenty of heat mixed with tenderness.  River is protective of Lola while trying not to compromise her freedom and ability to make her own choices.  He grows as their relationship grows and allows himself to open up to being loved and deserving the love of those around him. I couldn’t put this down.  Incredibly well-written and paced in a way that it never lagged, this was an extremely enjoyable read.

Hidden by the Doctor (In Clear Sight #4)

by Kennedy L. Mitchell

ARC: Release Date- 03/08/2023

#RomanticSuspense #MC #SingleDad #Small Town #ARC

5 STARS

Book four in this series is the first one I have read.  It absolutely stands alone, though characters from previous books play a role and there may be spoilers to their stories in this book.  Hidden by the Doctor is written in first person from an alternating dual POV and ends with a HEA.

Miller is a morally gray hero who has been raised in a MC by a violent and vicious father who has been preparing him to become the VP to his Prez role.  He has seen and done many things and never questioned them until he finds out the latest thing his club is involved in.  He knows that the only way out is death: until one fateful night changes everything.

Caradee is a family practice doctor in the small town of Grandger.  Returning to her small hometown was not what she had planned, yet here she is.  She is still mourning the life she thought she would have and reconciling the life that is when she meets Miller and his baby girl.  Nothing will ever be the same again.

I love Miller’s dirty mouth.  I adore how he helps Caradee become more confident and secure in who she is.  His protective nature and actions to protect Carlie and Caradee are ovary-melting.  To read the big, tatted dude be so incredibly gentle with the baby and facing all the struggles a person faces as a new parent: really something special.  The heat and physically intimate scenes between Miller and Caradee are five alarm hot! There are moments of danger and suspense before they get to their HEA.  The prologue is a violent and intense read.  Readers should be cautioned by the trigger warnings when deciding if this book is for them. I was absolutely hooked.  I couldn’t put it down.  I loved everything and now I need to go back and read the others.  They have been on my list but now they are definitely moved up toward the top.

TW: Attempted SA, kidnapping, numerous detailed intimate scenes, crass language and violence.

Grump in a Kilt (Kilted hearts #2) by Kait Nolan

ARC: Release Date- 03/10/2023

#GrumpySunshine #OppositesAttract #SmallTown #ARC

5 STARS

Book two in this series can be read as a standalone and ends with a HEA.  Readers should know that the characters in the series overlap into the other books of the series.  It is written in third person from an alternating dual POV.

Malcolm and Charlotte are both mature characters, which I love.  He is a hot and grumpy silver fox Scot and she is a lovely Latina Texan woman who doesn’t put up with Malcolm’s grump.  They find they have some commonalities and begin to form a friendship.  Events of the story bring them even closer together until love is the only option.  That is not to say it is without difficulty.  They have challenges to overcome along the way.

There is some heat and some shared emotions between them that I really loved.  Charlotte is a wonderful character.  I loved her determination and her acceptance of circumstances while still persevering toward the goal.  I adored her massive ability to offer unconditional love to those around her.  Malcolm learns to appreciate those things about Charlotte too.  Malcolm has reasons why is is as grumpy as he is.  I felt empathy for what he has endured and appreciate him for the man he has become.

This was a wonderful low angst read with a side of heat.  Who doesn’t love a big and burly silver fox Scot? I definitely do.

A Tale of Three Signings (Spring 2024 book signing recap)

Over the past seven weeks I attended three book signings, each two weeks apart, I started at the Sweetgrass Author Event in Charleston, SC. From there I visited some family in West Virginia and Pennsylvania before my oldest daughter and I traveled to Ellicott City, MD, for Charm City Romanticon. After that, I returned home to Colorado before driving to Aurora for Readers Take Denver, where I was assisting Sara Madderson/Elodie Hart and also had a reader ticket. Below I will share some pictures and a recap of each signing as it was for me.  Sweetgrass was the fifth signing event I have attended that was put on by Southern Belles. It was also undoubtably the largest. With a stellar author lineup, there were a lot of tickets sold. In my opinion, probably too many. For a six hour signing, I was able to get to a shockingly few authors in my time there. They hit a few snags with this one.  First, let me talk about the city of Charleston.  Rich in history, with out of this world southern cu

Best Reads of 2023

2023 has come to an end and  as a result I have had some time to look back on my best reads from last year.  It is always fun to remember the fantastic books I read.  I love thinking about the worlds the authors created for my escape and enjoyment.  I also am able to see where I had some gaps in my reading.  I read most sub-genres and tropes, but I did not read a single fantasy romance last year.  That made me sad.  I will need to fix that in 2024.  My reading is typically on the lighter side of the spectrum.  Dark romance readers will only find a couple of books in that category here.  Most of my reads are also steamy, with open door scenes that are sometimes explicit and appropriate for mature readers.  My reviews are available on the blog if you need more details about what I liked about a book.  Also, I am including Amazon links to the books so you can read the blurb and decide for yourself if you think my favorite reads are books you might enjoy. Looking at the numbers at the end

Book reviews from the week of May 19th

Happy weekend. This week I read three ARCs and two books from my TBR.  All three ARCs will release the first week of June and the two books on my TBR have been on my kindle for a while. They served as perfect palette cleansers between these wonderful ARCs. Both books from my TBR offered heroines with disability. In The Marquess and I, Willow is blind. In Wolf Signs, the heroine is deaf. I felt like the authors handled both situations well within their stories and it made them interesting reads. Check out my reviews and add these to your TBR today if they grab you. I don't think you will regret it. Happy reading!
