Book reviews from the week of September 25th

Happy weekend! I am at the Route 66 Author Event in Oklahoma City this weekend.  I love catching up with authors and other readers.  OKC is a new town for me.  This is also the first signing I drove to and my hubby came with me.  I am so excited to see his reaction to the signing tomorrow, even though this is one of the smaller ones I have attended.

I am in the middle of an ARC and three audio books as I write this.  Hopefully that means I will have more book reviews to share next week.  This week I did finish one ARC and one book by L.B. Dunbar, who has been on my list forever.  I also read several short stories from anthologies in my collection to read something by authors I have not red yet but that I will be meeting at the event.  Someday when I finish those anthologies, I will need to write reviews for them as well.  I hope these reviews find you happy and reading something fabulous.

Speak From The Heart (Heart Collection #1)
by L.B. Dunbar

5 STARS

This is the first book in a series of standalones. It is written in first person from and alternating dual POV and ends with a HEA.

Jess and his daughter are dealing with a lot in their small Michigan town. Luckily he has extensive family support. Emily returns to visit her Nana only to discover that her nana has some issues that she was not previously aware of. Jess's daughter, Katie, develops an instant attachment to Emily which is 100% reciprocated.

I love the friendship and the heat that develop between Jess and Emily. I adore the relationship with Katie and the loving support Emily offers her. I love how she pushes Jess to do the uncomfortable things regarding his daughter. Nana's advice throughout the book is sound and worth my many highlights. Jess has to accept the possibility of a future he never imagined while Emily has to decide what future she really wants to have.

This steamy small town romance has a lot of heart. There was a lot to love. From Nana's advice, to modern fairy tales, to extremely romantic moments this book packs a wallop. The characters are mature and deal with individual issues in a mature way on their way to becoming a family. This was my first book by this author, though I own several of them based on recommendations of other readers. I knew I would love her writing and I absolutely do. I can't wait to read more of her work.

Irresistible Trouble (Copper Valley Fireballs #4)

by Pippa Grant

ARC: Release Date- 09/29/2022

5 STARS

Book four in the Copper Valley Fireballs series can be read as a stand alone and ends with a HEA.  That said, Cooper, our hero, does appear in several previous books by this author and I personally always love knowing all the backstory.  It is written in first person from an alternating dual POV.

Cooper Rock.  He gave this author fits, but she finally managed to drag his story out of him, and it was fantastic. I was a little irritated with him in the beginning of this book.  I have always loved him.  Getting to know his weaknesses was enlightening.  Ultimately, he reconnects with pop star Waverly Sweet and gets knocked completely on his backside.  It was completely enjoyable to read as he figures out how he can pursue someone so obviously out of his league.

Waverly was a real sweetheart.  She has spent a long time in the music business and is at the top of her game.  She has a little drama within her team, and she is utterly exhausted by her life.  I really appreciated how real she was and how human.  I loved her and she is certainly one of my favorite heroines now.

Their romance has plenty of heat.  They support of each other emotionally and support each other’s dreams.  Their emotional connection as they work their long-distance relationship was wonderful to read.  Waverly is perfect for Cooper, and he grows enough to become perfect for her.  This was a wonderful read, and I can’t recommend it enough.

Book reviews for books read January 19th-24th

Happy weekend! I decided that since I hit 7 books this week I should just go ahead and push this out today. I will read at least one more today but you will see that review next week. I had a gap between ARCs! I went back and finished the Kings of Avalier series that I started in February 2024.  SO GOOD! They are new adult, which is not my norm, but the fantasy realm made them un-put-down-able. I am thrilled to meet the author in Phoenix in a couple of weeks. I read the next book in the J. Saman series I am making my way through. Those Abbot-Fritz brothers are something else. I adore that whole family. I read four novellas with 2 of those being new-to-me authors. Coco Miller's book was a fun billionaire read, and Regine Abel's Prime Mating Agency was GOLD. You will see in my review that I loved this first in series book, and I am super excited to read the rest of them. I read a wonderful mafia novella by Lee Savino. He is truly obsessed with the girl without it being a terri...

Book reviews for books read October 20th-31st

I read two arcs in the second part of October. They were both wonderful reads. Obviously, my personal life has impacted my reading as I only finished 5 books this month. I can't tell you when the last time was that I read so little. The positive part was all of the books I read this month were very good. Until next time, happy reading! Can't Believe You Came (Mile High Matched #5)  by Christina Hovland ARC: Release Date- 10/24/2025 #CinnamonRollHero #OppositesAttract #ARC I am voluntarily writing this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book. It is written in third person, can be read as a standalone, and ends with a HEA. I have loved this series from the beginning. It is wonderful to finally see the last Dvornakov get their HEA. Zach is a cinnamon roll hero to love. He falls first, fast, and hard for Piper. Piper, who is type A personified, does her best to control every situation she is in and Zach is an outlier. His calm and steady presence c...

Book reviews from the week of June 7th

The weekend is almost over as I type this but this is me running behind this week. What a week it has been! I have worked a lot at the job, the hubby had surgery, and we celebrated both my 33rd wedding anniversary and Father's Day.  I read one ARC, two books from my TBR, and one new-to-me author. I have found that after I read a really good book I need to read something a little different to get over the book hangover. That happened twice this week. After I finished the Harlow James ARC, I read an escort book by Leigh James that has been on my kindle for ages. After I read Lyndsey Gallagher's newest release, I started Escort Training which I think I picked up free a while back. That led me down a rabbit hole to reading the whole series. I have decided to review that whole series together as opposed to reviewing each book individually as they are really one story on three stages. It was a fabulous variety of reads this week and now I need to get serious and get back to ARCs. ...
