Book reviews from the week of August 7th

Happy weekend.  This week I read one ARC and finished an audiobook reread of another book I started last week.  Carly Phillips adds to the Kingston Family world with Jade Dare's love story.  You don't want to miss this one.  My listen of Rockaway Bride by Pippa Grant was a fun and relaxing treat. I really enjoyed going back to my first Pippa book with audio and the narrators did a fantastic job bringing the story to life.  I wish everyone a week of happy reading and good stories.

Just One Kiss (Kingston Family #6) by Carly Phillips

ARC: Release Date- 808/16/2022

Knox and Jade’s story is written in third person from a dual perspective.  It can be read as a standalone and ends in a HEA.

The attraction and heat between Knox and his stepbrother’s ex-fiancĆ©e has always been strong but neither would have ever done anything about it if they hadn’t both ended up single.  When they cross paths again, they decide to give in for just one night.  One night soon becomes a few nights as they keep crossing paths.  A surprise pregnancy soon ties them together while they deal with her ex’s jealousy and Jade’s fears about the future.

I adored Knox.  He is strong, loyal, and loving.  And hot. I love how he looks after Jade, and how he knows he needs to take things slow with her emotionally.  The heat between them is intense and I appreciated the emotional connection they shared. I loved Jade.  I really liked how the author delves into mental health issues, family trauma, and the fears Jade has regarding motherhood.  The deeper elements really made the book.

This was a wonderful read and I really enjoyed reading Knox and Jade’s story.

Rockaway Bride (Girl Band #3) by Pippa Grant

Laugh out loud funny. Willow is a completely fresh and irresistible heroine. Dax is the bad boy that girls dream about and he is hot-hot-hot.
This book is full of ridiculously funny situations, seriously attractive (on all levels) characters, and a love story about finding love for the person you really are. I recommend this to anyone needing a love story with some laughs included.

( Note: I did not realize when I started this book that other books by this author precede this one and that those characters make appearances in this book. Though this book is great as a stand alone I will be going back and reading these books from the beginning order now-because I am OCD like that.)

(Note 2: I have now read everything by this author.  You can't go wrong.)

8/10/22: I listened to the audio of this book as a reread. The book is written in first person from an alternating dual POV. The characters were just as funny the second time around. Savannah Peachwood and Jason Clarke do an amazing job bringing the characters and their story to life. I am truly in awe of their talents. Each one was able to voice the other characters in a believable way during their chapters. This was a great way to revisit an old favorite.

Book reviews for books read May 3rd - May 10th

Happy weekend!  I read two ARCs this week. They were both very different and both very good. Marika Ray's new book is going to be the perfect summer read. Take it to the lake or the beach and fully enjoy the quirky romance between Maple and Holt. I promise you will adore the meddling seniors along the way. Then I read an arc by a debut author and it knocked  my socks off. When was the last time you got a book hangover from a brand new author? Yeah, it is a rare thing but it happened to me this week.  Check my reviews and add these to your TBR. You wont be sorry. Until next time, happy reading. Anchored by Marika Ray ARC: Release Date- 05/13/2025 #FakeRelationship #ForcedProximity #SmallTown #SecondChance #ARC I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book. This standalone is written in first person from an alternating dual POV and ends with a HEA. Maple (32) is having a crisis of confidence due to many factors when sh...

Best Reads of 2024

It is 2025! It feels like 2024 flew by.  This year's "best of" list is a little different.  In part this is due to time constraints and in part due to the fact that some trope categories have a LOT of excellent reads.  I just could not narrow them down to even eight for the graphics. I obviously have my favorite tropes, as this list will tell you. If you don't see a trope here on this list, it may be that I read one and it just wasn't quite a five star read for me. Most of the books I read are either four or five star reads. I have found what I like, and I tend to stick to it. You can search the labels on the main page of my blog or search in the general search bar to pull up books from another category and read my reviews. If a book is on this list, it was a five star read for me. That means I loved it, I found no major flaws in timeline, editing, or characters, and I would want to read it again. The links I am including are for Amazon out of ease, but several o...

A Tale of Three Signings (Spring 2024 book signing recap)

Over the past seven weeks I attended three book signings, each two weeks apart, I started at the Sweetgrass Author Event in Charleston, SC. From there I visited some family in West Virginia and Pennsylvania before my oldest daughter and I traveled to Ellicott City, MD, for Charm City Romanticon. After that, I returned home to Colorado before driving to Aurora for Readers Take Denver, where I was assisting Sara Madderson/Elodie Hart and also had a reader ticket. Below I will share some pictures and a recap of each signing as it was for me.  Sweetgrass was the fifth signing event I have attended that was put on by Southern Belles. It was also undoubtably the largest. With a stellar author lineup, there were a lot of tickets sold. In my opinion, probably too many. For a six hour signing, I was able to get to a shockingly few authors in my time there. They hit a few snags with this one.  First, let me talk about the city of Charleston.  Rich in history, with out of thi...
