The Right Choice (Gemstone Sisters #2) by D. Lilac

ARC: Release Date- 5/29/2021

This is P and Bear’s story.  It is written in first person from a dual POV.  It is the second book in an interconnected series, but it can be reads as a standalone.  Book one follows P’s twin sister Ruby to her HEA.  The timelines overlap to a certain degree and P’s story continues beyond Ruby’s HEA.

P and Bear both have baggage and have had heartache.  I loved reading about their pasts and how they moved forward to where they are today.  I really enjoyed the friendship Bear and P form and that it takes them both time to get to know each other and decide to become more.  I loved how patient Bear was with P. There is plenty of heat between the two characters and I loved the physical intensity between them.  There were moments in this story when I really wanted to smack Bear upside the head.  The author does a good job of conveying the reasons for his choices, yet I was really wanting him to move past those reasons to be the hero I knew he was faster than he did.  This family has some complicated dynamics.  I really admire the author for addressing those in a believable way.   I love the relationships between the sisters, and I really enjoyed the friendship P has with her best friend, Caroline.  Everyone deserves a friend who will always be there for you at the drop of a hat.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable story that I read in one sitting.  I am looking forward to reading Jade’s story next, and maybe (fingers crossed) even a story about Caroline getting her HEA.

Not Pretending Anymore by Penelope Ward & Vi Keeland

Friendship becomes so much more,

Molly is looking for a roommate, but the choices are pretty dismal. Along comes the last person, who is perfect except for being male. Declan is in Chicago for a 6 month assignment and convinces Molly to allow him to be her roommate. I really liked Molly and understood her. Declan was amazing. Seriously, he can move in and cook for me. They are both a little blindsided by the depth of the feelings they develop for each other.

I love the friendship they form right out of the gate. I love that Declan is there for Molly during some difficult moments. Though they are attracted to each other physically, they are both pursuing then dating other people. This book is a bit of a slow burn, because they never really get together till near the end. When they do, it is pretty hot. There are two love triangles through a good portion of the book. Though Molly never sleeps with Will during that time, I felt like it was a little ambiguous as to whether Declan slept with Julia. There are some funny moments that made me laugh, some heat at the end, and romance. Secondary characters were stellar. I really hope that Will gets his story and HEA some day. This book is written in first person from a dual POV.

Our Kind of Love (Men of the Misfit Inn #2) by Kait Nolan

Kyle is a country music star.  Abbey was his best friend since forever until 10 years ago, when everything changed.  When he accidentally implies that he is engaged in an interview and names Abbey as his fiancée, he must rush home to do some damage control.  Their story is written in third person from a dual POV.

I adored Abbey.  She is a small-town girl who had her heart broken by her best friend.  But she still loves her family, her town, and her business.  I love that she is direct and calls Kyle out on multiple occasions throughout the book.  I love that she knows Kyle in a way no one else does because of their history.  I love that she can support him because deep down she never stopped loving him. Kyle is a little disillusioned with where his life is when he makes the interview mistake. I love that he seizes the opportunity to win Abbey back yet is patient until she asks for his side of the story of what happened 10 years ago. There is some heat and a lot of heart as they find their way back to each other.

I adored the secondary characters in the story.  Granddaddy was someone I just want to hang out with on the back porch.  I love the supportive found family.  I thoroughly enjoyed the book and cannot wait for more stories set in Eden Ridge.

I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book.

The wounded hero returns home to find healing and love.

This is the author’s debut book, and it is a winner.  It is written in first person from a dual POV.  It is the first in an interconnected series but there is no cliffhanger, and it ends with a wonderful HEA.

The story opens with Lincoln, serving in combat as a Marine and being injured.  After he comes home to the small town of Chikalu Falls, Montana, the story moves forward two years.  I loved Lincoln.  The wounded and damaged hero is my favorite and the author did an excellent job with him.  I really appreciated that the author understands the military and the difference between Marines and soldiers.  I also appreciated how she deals with Lincoln and the struggles he has after he gets home.  I found his character to be complex and tough with a heart like a soft gooey marshmallow.  I love the symbolism of the Valkyrie and how it impacted his life.  I love that Joanna’s letters gave him that thread to hang onto in the war zone.  It was easy to understand how he was torn between his honor code, his desires, and his feelings for Joanna.  I also loved that he recognized that he had some baggage and he felt she deserved more than he could give.

Joanna is a fabulous heroine.  I felt like I really understood her and how she felt like she never quite fit.  I love that she wrote letters to Lincoln while he was overseas, but I also understood why she avoided him after he came home.  I loved her strength of character and her determination to succeed.  I also really loved her competence in the outdoors as a guide.  I really appreciated her acceptance of Lincoln where he was and her ability to not push him to share more than he could at any given time.

I really enjoyed reading as they got to know each other.  The passion and the hot times between them were perfect for their story.  I really loved the feelings they develop for each other so quickly and the connection they share.  The pace and plot were very good, and I had a hard time putting the book down. This debut novel captured me completely.  I am impressed and I cannot wait to read more by this new author.

The I Love You Series Box Set by Julie Capulet

This box set includes three novels and a special bonus epilogue to the I Love You and I Love You More books titled I love You Most.  I will separate the reviews below and include the bonus epilogue review with I love You Most.

XOXO I Love You (I Love You #1) by Julie Capulet

#BillionaireRomance #InstaLove #AlphaHero

5 STARS

Rafe is a tough billionaire CEO who is knocked completely off kilter at his first sight of Lexi.  She is innocent but not naïve.  She and Rafe have both had some rough experiences in their lives and have the baggage and secrets to prove it.  Rafe fell hard, and I loved that.  His obsession was a little out of control at times and he does not always make the best decisions.  I appreciate his protective instinct and his relationship with his brother.  I appreciate how driven he has been to succeed.  I love how he wants to take care of Lexi, but he has to learn to temper that.  Insta-love, and lots of heat make this a fun and steamy read. The first book in this duet does not yet have the HEA and has a bit of a cliffhanger.  It is written in first person from a dual POV.

XOXX I Love You More (I Love You #2) by Julie Capulet

#BillionaireRomance #InstaLove #AlphaHero

5 STARS

Lexi and Rafe must overcome some challenges and learn to communicate and trust each other on their way to their HEA.  I love how much they both grow in this book.  Their physical attraction/connection is powerful.  They must learn to be just as open and trusting with their hearts and feelings. I loved that they finally get their HEA.  This book is part 2 of the duet and is written in first person from a dual POV.

XOXO I Love You Most (I Love You: Bonus Epilogue)

by Julie Capulet

This bonus follows Rafe and Lexi in their HEA.  I always love reading as they have a family and a good relationship down the road.  Also written in first person from a dual POV, this was a super sweet, steamy, enjoyable footnote for this couple.

Max by Julie Capulet

#BillionaireRomance #InstaLove #AlphaHero #WoundedHero #HealingLove

5 STARS

Max is a bit of a bad boy.  But underneath his exterior is really a gooey marshmallow heart that melts as soon as he meets Peach.  I love that he really does not understand why he is feeling all these feelings.  He has a traumatic history, baggage, and the nightmares to go with it.  He never thought he would ever feel love, but with Peach, it is instant.  I love the connection they build so quickly.  I love that they open up to each other and that Max feels a compunction to share his history with her.  I love his desire to protect and take care of her.  These two characters pack some serios heat in their story. I love Peach and her supportive and gentle nature with Max.  They are both facing threats that they conquer together.  Their HEA is the stuff dreams are made of.  Roses, peaches, pie, plantations, and greenhouses are central as they build their family and future together.  Their story is written in first person from a dual POV.

A Tale of Three Signings (Spring 2024 book signing recap)

Over the past seven weeks I attended three book signings, each two weeks apart, I started at the Sweetgrass Author Event in Charleston, SC. From there I visited some family in West Virginia and Pennsylvania before my oldest daughter and I traveled to Ellicott City, MD, for Charm City Romanticon. After that, I returned home to Colorado before driving to Aurora for Readers Take Denver, where I was assisting Sara Madderson/Elodie Hart and also had a reader ticket. Below I will share some pictures and a recap of each signing as it was for me.  Sweetgrass was the fifth signing event I have attended that was put on by Southern Belles. It was also undoubtably the largest. With a stellar author lineup, there were a lot of tickets sold. In my opinion, probably too many. For a six hour signing, I was able to get to a shockingly few authors in my time there. They hit a few snags with this one.  First, let me talk about the city of Charleston.  Rich in history, with out of this world southern cu

Best Reads of 2023

2023 has come to an end and  as a result I have had some time to look back on my best reads from last year.  It is always fun to remember the fantastic books I read.  I love thinking about the worlds the authors created for my escape and enjoyment.  I also am able to see where I had some gaps in my reading.  I read most sub-genres and tropes, but I did not read a single fantasy romance last year.  That made me sad.  I will need to fix that in 2024.  My reading is typically on the lighter side of the spectrum.  Dark romance readers will only find a couple of books in that category here.  Most of my reads are also steamy, with open door scenes that are sometimes explicit and appropriate for mature readers.  My reviews are available on the blog if you need more details about what I liked about a book.  Also, I am including Amazon links to the books so you can read the blurb and decide for yourself if you think my favorite reads are books you might enjoy. Looking at the numbers at the end

Book reviews from the week of May 19th

Happy weekend. This week I read three ARCs and two books from my TBR.  All three ARCs will release the first week of June and the two books on my TBR have been on my kindle for a while. They served as perfect palette cleansers between these wonderful ARCs. Both books from my TBR offered heroines with disability. In The Marquess and I, Willow is blind. In Wolf Signs, the heroine is deaf. I felt like the authors handled both situations well within their stories and it made them interesting reads. Check out my reviews and add these to your TBR today if they grab you. I don't think you will regret it. Happy reading! My Royal Showmance (Park Avenue Promise #2)  by Lexi Blake ARC: Release Date- 06/04/2024 #Royal #SecretRomance #ARC Book two in the series is written in first person from Anika’s POV and ends in a HEA.
