This week had some fantastic ARCs that release within the next week.  They cover everything from over the top romantic comedy, to heart melting angst and pain.  It was a wonderful mix to read this week.

Kline Brooks: My favorite billionaire.

This collection includes Tapping the Billionaire, Tapping Her, and a brand-new novella- Be My Billionaire Valentine. The new novella is set directly after Tapping Her in the timeline. All three books are written in first person from multiple POV. If you have never read this series, this is the perfect introduction to all things Kline and Georgia as well as to their best friends and Georgia’s family.

Tapping the Billionaire:
Book one of the Bad Boy Billionaire series lays the groundwork for all the characters. Georgia and Kline have a workplace romance that also includes a little bit of a You’ve Got Mail vibe. Their friends are crazy. The humor is top notch. There is plenty of heat in the bedroom. Kline has ALL the swoon. Georgia is fiery and fierce. I really love this book and the wedding HEA that brought tears to my eyes and sets them up for their future. This laugh-out-loud book hooked me on Max Monroe a few years ago. The reread was just as enjoyable as the first read was then. I just love this author duo.

Tapping Her:
This story picks up with Georgia and Kline on their honeymoon in Bora Bora. They have all the love, heat, and humor between them as they enjoy each other and try to plan for their new reality when they return to real life. Cassie and Thatch are left to pet sit Walter, the demon cat. The story also includes chapters from both Thatch and Cassie’s POV as they get to know each other through that process. Craziness ensues between the two crazy friends. Walter has an adventure and makes a friend. Georgia and Kline return from their honeymoon and jump into life and make some immediate big changes. The story has heat and humor and many laugh out loud moments as well as lots of romance and the Kline Brooks melt-my-heart moments that I expect now.

Be My Billionaire Valentine:
This new novella picks up after Georgia and Kline’s honeymoon. They are settling into their new lives together and Kline wants to make sure he is still romancing his new wife. He plans a getaway to do just that, but when Thatch gets involved in the planning, things go comedically awry. This novella also includes some chapters from Thatch’s POV as he attempts to up Kline’s romantic game for him. Through some plans that do not go as expected Kline and Georgia realize that they only need each other and that they do not need a holiday to tell them to celebrate their love. Humor and heat are still present along with all the romantic feelings between one of my favorite fictional couples. Don’t miss this new addition to the Bad Boy Billionaire series.

Original Meet Cute

This romance between Jemma and Oliver has a unique meet cute.  Oliver is 10 years older than Jemma.  When she offers to help him after an accident, and he accepts, they end up spending a lot of time together over a few weeks.  They have intense physical chemistry, caring hearts, and a desire to help others that draws them together.  Unfortunately, there are circumstances that could keep them apart, including a secret that Oliver keeps from Jemma till almost the end of the book.

I liked Jemma a lot.  She is a kind and caring person who dreams of having a family someday and falls head over heels for Oliver very quickly.  Their age difference never matters to her, but she does have trouble seeing what a successful guy like Ollie would want to do with her.  Oliver has a big heart.  He tries to hold himself back from falling for Jemma because he does not believe he deserves her, and he does not think he can ever give her what she wants.  When he gives in, he falls hard.  I was very upset with him when his secret is revealed, and I understood completely why Jemma felt as she did.  I was angry that a smart guy like Oliver could be so clueless at the same time he was both smart and kind.

The characters are well-written, and the plot is interesting and moves at a good pace.  There is the underlying magic of a letter, steamy scenes in the bedroom, and a meet cute unlike any other. There are also plenty of moments that caused me to laugh out loud.   The secondary characters are likable and set up scenarios for may books to come.  I appreciated their friendship and straight talk to Ollie and Jemma when they need it.   The book is written in first person from a dual POV.  I look forward to reading more books by this author.

Forever Is Not Always Easy

This book covers Keely and Blake as they approach their 6th wedding anniversary. It is written in third person from a dual POV.

Unlike most romance novels, this book never leaves any doubt that they love each other, only if their marriage can survive. They have hit some obstacles in their marriage. The future they planned together looks like a dream that may never be a reality. They must decide when to give each other space and when to lean on each other. They must find support and love in family and friends, and they need to learn when to ask for help. Ultimately, they need to make their marriage a priority and pull together to survive.

I love how realistic their struggles are. The feelings they each have are well-described and pulled at my heart. I understood their grief, their anger, their numbness, and their pain. I understood when they each tried to deal with those feelings in different ways. I also understood the toll that all of this took on their marriage. I love how supportive their friends were for them. I loved that through this painful time, Minka and Keely finally heal and become closer after a life of jealousy and doubt. I love that Blake’s parents show up and are finally able to mend that relationship. Blake is sensitive and caring to Keely, even when he is frustrated by her actions. Keely is really struggling, and I appreciated that most of the time she was still able to see how amazing Blake was.

I appreciated that this book makes it clear that marriage alone does not always equal a happily ever after. There are times in a marriage that require work, communication, compromise, and forgiveness to stay together and move forward. Having been married nearly 30 years myself, this was the message that I loved most in this book. I think it was the perfect final book in the Martha’s Way series.

A Tale of Three Signings (Spring 2024 book signing recap)

Over the past seven weeks I attended three book signings, each two weeks apart, I started at the Sweetgrass Author Event in Charleston, SC. From there I visited some family in West Virginia and Pennsylvania before my oldest daughter and I traveled to Ellicott City, MD, for Charm City Romanticon. After that, I returned home to Colorado before driving to Aurora for Readers Take Denver, where I was assisting Sara Madderson/Elodie Hart and also had a reader ticket. Below I will share some pictures and a recap of each signing as it was for me.  Sweetgrass was the fifth signing event I have attended that was put on by Southern Belles. It was also undoubtably the largest. With a stellar author lineup, there were a lot of tickets sold. In my opinion, probably too many. For a six hour signing, I was able to get to a shockingly few authors in my time there. They hit a few snags with this one.  First, let me talk about the city of Charleston.  Rich in history, with out of this world southern cu

Best Reads of 2023

2023 has come to an end and  as a result I have had some time to look back on my best reads from last year.  It is always fun to remember the fantastic books I read.  I love thinking about the worlds the authors created for my escape and enjoyment.  I also am able to see where I had some gaps in my reading.  I read most sub-genres and tropes, but I did not read a single fantasy romance last year.  That made me sad.  I will need to fix that in 2024.  My reading is typically on the lighter side of the spectrum.  Dark romance readers will only find a couple of books in that category here.  Most of my reads are also steamy, with open door scenes that are sometimes explicit and appropriate for mature readers.  My reviews are available on the blog if you need more details about what I liked about a book.  Also, I am including Amazon links to the books so you can read the blurb and decide for yourself if you think my favorite reads are books you might enjoy. Looking at the numbers at the end

Book reviews from the week of May 19th

Happy weekend. This week I read three ARCs and two books from my TBR.  All three ARCs will release the first week of June and the two books on my TBR have been on my kindle for a while. They served as perfect palette cleansers between these wonderful ARCs. Both books from my TBR offered heroines with disability. In The Marquess and I, Willow is blind. In Wolf Signs, the heroine is deaf. I felt like the authors handled both situations well within their stories and it made them interesting reads. Check out my reviews and add these to your TBR today if they grab you. I don't think you will regret it. Happy reading!
