Blurb:

She’s a curvaceous vixen who owns the hottest lounge in Los Angeles.

He’s a sexy hockey goaltender who plays the game off the ice more than on.

What happens when a one-night stand becomes more?

Twenty-eight-year-old, voluptuous, Filipina-American, Arianna Santos has the hottest spot in LA nightlife. When her grandfather has a major stroke and there’s a low chance of recovery, she inherits from him the worst team in the National Hockey League, the San Francisco Storm. Without knowing anything about hockey or running a hockey franchise, Arianna needs to prove to the all-boys club that a well-educated, minority female owner has a place in the industry. The Storm General Manager insists that she learn about hockey from the new goalie, Blake Collins.

Tall, toned, and hazel-eyed, Blake Collins has the swift moves on the ice as the California Crusaders goaltender, continuing the Collins goalie legacy of Stanley Cup Championships his father and grandfather established for the team. When a knee injury affects his game and attitude on the ice, he gets transferred to the San Francisco Storm as their only hope of making it to play-offs. As the player with the most knowledge and skills passed from generations of great hockey players, Blake is forced to teach the new knows-nothing-about-hockey owner, Arianna Santos, about how the hockey world works.

Blake and Arianna’s animal attraction to each other gives them a passionate one-night stand in LA that doesn’t end as they expected. Will their reunion cause a riff in the organization? Will they both play nice to one another for the sake of the team?

My Review:

3.5 STARS

Arianna is a tough businesswoman with a successful club.  Blake is a star goalie for an NHL hockey team making a comeback from an injury.  When they run into each other, sparks fly.  Their story is written in first person from a dual POV.

I loved Arianna and her heart for her family.  I love the multicultural dimension to her story with her Filipino heritage.  I really enjoyed that the author incorporated foods, language and traditions that were important to Arianna into the story.  Blake has a good heart, despite having his father push him ruthlessly, and often unkindly.  I really felt for him as he tries to recover from his injury, face challenges with a good attitude, fall in love, and figure out his life, all at once.  His father comes around at the end of the book, but it never really felt true- maybe because the speed of it.  I would have preferred to either have him be less harsh in the beginning or for there to have been a larger event which changed his heart.

I felt the characters were well developed and complex.  The plot was good.  There were times when the writing felt a little stilted, especially during some dialogue scenes and during the intimate moments.  I think some of that was just word choice.  The pacing was ok, but I found that there were some scenes that had a lot of unnecessary detail while others may have benefited from more details and exposition.  I think the conclusion could have used a little more development as it felt like it wrapped up a little too fast.  The editing was quite good, even with the advance review copy, which sometimes contains errors.  Overall, I really did like the book.  The characters were especially likable.  This author is new to me and pretty new overall.  I feel like she has a lot of potential and that she is one to watch.  I will be reading her next book to follow her writing and more of these wonderful characters.

Book reviews for books read October 20th-31st

I read two arcs in the second part of October. They were both wonderful reads. Obviously, my personal life has impacted my reading as I only finished 5 books this month. I can't tell you when the last time was that I read so little. The positive part was all of the books I read this month were very good. Until next time, happy reading! Can't Believe You Came (Mile High Matched #5)  by Christina Hovland ARC: Release Date- 10/24/2025 #CinnamonRollHero #OppositesAttract #ARC I am voluntarily writing this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book. It is written in third person, can be read as a standalone, and ends with a HEA. I have loved this series from the beginning. It is wonderful to finally see the last Dvornakov get their HEA. Zach is a cinnamon roll hero to love. He falls first, fast, and hard for Piper. Piper, who is type A personified, does her best to control every situation she is in and Zach is an outlier. His calm and steady presence c...

Book reviews for books read September 21st-30th

This review post is late due to a family emergency that happened about ten days ago now. I feel like I am finally getting my self together a little bit today and was able to put this together finally. During the last week of the month, I read one ARC, one book for book club, and three smutty novellas. Check out my reviews and add so books to your TBR today. My month in review. September turned out to be a good reading month for me. Most of the ARCs that I read that released in September, I actually read in August. That freed up some time to read from my TBR and finish two reading challenges. During the last week of the month, I finished the A to Z reading challenge. Earlier this month, I completed the B.A.N.G. Book Club reading challenge. I also took this as an opportunity to read new-to-me authors and fit in several novellas. Out of the 23 books I read and the 2 I did not finish, I read 19 new-to-me authors! That has to be a record for me. There is a place for smutty insta-love ...

Book reviews for books read July 7th-19th

Happy weekend! My daughter visited for a week and I spent several days reading 6 novellas in the Berserkers Saga which was a perfect thing to read while she was here. I also finished the Tsenturion Warriors series finally. I love those big gold aliens. Be careful about swiping right for abduction, LOL. And I was able to read an ARC of Emily Silver's next release. This book was written as a special book for RARE London this year and will release in August. It was a thoroughly enjoyable start to a new series. I want to go back and finish the rest of the Berserker series and I am hoping to really get through some books on my TBR over the next couple months. Stay tuned for a lot of reviews as I do that. Until next time, happy reading.
