Book Blog Tour: "Protective Instinct" by Tricia Lynne

PROTECTIVE INSTINCT (Unlovabulls #1) by Tricia Lynne

Release Date: December 21st

Every now and then, I read a newer author who knocks my socks off.  This is Tricia's second book, and the first of her work I read.  I was blown away.  This is a five star read, that I cannot recommend enough.

My Review:

5 STARS

This was my first book by this author, and I am blown away.  This full-length novel is written in first person from a dual POV.

There is so much to this book.  There is the drama of Brody, a football player nearing the end of his career with the injuries and politics that entails.  There is the story of Lily, a dog trainer who has rejected family expectations and coercion in to pursue her dream and her happiness.  You have the story of the dogs that are rescued, the mills that used to hold them, and the struggle to save more in that situation.  And finally, you have the story of two people who have an instant physical attraction, become friends, share a common goal, and fall in love.

There is humor, heat, and heart all twined throughout this impeccably well-written and heart touching book.  I love the way the author writes, utilizing the perfect turn of phrase at the right moment.  I love the complexity of the story and the characters, who each must overcome some baggage to get to their HEA. I love that the heroine is spunky, confident, and tough as nails.  I love that she stands up for what she knows she deserves and is willing to fight for the dogs who cannot fight for themselves.  I love that Brody is a soft-hearted, giant of a man who falls head over heels for Lily and is willing to do anything to make her happy.  I love that they must work at their relationship because relationships take work.  And I love that this book shines a spotlight on the ugly underbelly of the dark side of the dog breeding world to encourage the light that comes with animal rescue, good training, and second chances at forever homes for those many would just give up on.

This is a romance for anyone who loves sports romance.  This is a romance for dog lovers everywhere.  And this is a romance for readers who believe that every creature is lovable to the right person for them.

Blurb:

If football player Brody Shaw wants to retire from his hometown team, the Dallas Bulldogs, he needs to keep his head down and his nose clean. When the stray dog he rescued bites the pet sitter, it sets off an avalanche of bad publicity, and it’s time to bring in a professional.

Dog trainer Lily Costello has no intention of training Brody’s dog, CC—football players are bad news, and Brody Shaw is a player if she’s ever met one. Then she sees the brand on CC’s stomach. She came from a puppy mill—the very one Lily is trying to find and shut down.

Brody is all in to help the curvy trainer, and with his clout and connections, Lily finally has a lead. But it’s not long before they attract the wrong kind of attention. When someone makes it clear that they’ll stop at nothing to halt the search, it’ll take everything Brody and Lily have to escape with their lives…

About the Author:

Tricia Lynne is fluent in both sarcasm and cuss words and has little filter between her brain and mouth––a combination that tends to embarrass her husband at corporate functions. A tomboy at heart, she loves hard rock, Irish whiskey, and her Midwestern roots. She’s drawn to strong, flawed heroines, and believes writing isn’t a decision one makes, but a calling one can’t resist.

Tricia lives in Dallas with her husband and dogs, and is a co-founder of the All The Kissing blog as well as a contributor to The Curvy Fashionista blog. Be on the lookout for her newest, Protective Instincts, Book one of The Unlovabulls series in December, 2020. Her debut, Moonlight & Whiskey, is available now.

Book reviews for books read May 3rd - May 10th

Happy weekend!  I read two ARCs this week. They were both very different and both very good. Marika Ray's new book is going to be the perfect summer read. Take it to the lake or the beach and fully enjoy the quirky romance between Maple and Holt. I promise you will adore the meddling seniors along the way. Then I read an arc by a debut author and it knocked  my socks off. When was the last time you got a book hangover from a brand new author? Yeah, it is a rare thing but it happened to me this week.  Check my reviews and add these to your TBR. You wont be sorry. Until next time, happy reading. Anchored by Marika Ray ARC: Release Date- 05/13/2025 #FakeRelationship #ForcedProximity #SmallTown #SecondChance #ARC I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book. This standalone is written in first person from an alternating dual POV and ends with a HEA. Maple (32) is having a crisis of confidence due to many factors when sh...

Best Reads of 2024

It is 2025! It feels like 2024 flew by.  This year's "best of" list is a little different.  In part this is due to time constraints and in part due to the fact that some trope categories have a LOT of excellent reads.  I just could not narrow them down to even eight for the graphics. I obviously have my favorite tropes, as this list will tell you. If you don't see a trope here on this list, it may be that I read one and it just wasn't quite a five star read for me. Most of the books I read are either four or five star reads. I have found what I like, and I tend to stick to it. You can search the labels on the main page of my blog or search in the general search bar to pull up books from another category and read my reviews. If a book is on this list, it was a five star read for me. That means I loved it, I found no major flaws in timeline, editing, or characters, and I would want to read it again. The links I am including are for Amazon out of ease, but several o...

Book reviews for books read May 11th-25th

I read three ARCs and 2 books from my TBR in the last 2 weeks. I feel good about that considering that life at home has been pretty full lately. May has been an excellent reading month for me. There are so many good releases right now, it is impossible for me to keep up. These are all worth adding to your TBR. Check my reviews and add them to your list. Until next time, happy reading. Built To Last (Park Avenue Promise #3) by Lexi Blake ARC: Release Date- 05/27/2025 #EnemiesToLovers #Celebrity #Workplace  #ARC I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book. This is the third book in the series, and it is written in first person from Harper’s POV. This book is driven heavily by dialogue, and I personally did not miss having the male POV. Though it fully contains the love story of Harper and Reid, I think readers will gain the most value from reading this series in order. The friendship and found family relationship between Ivy, ...
