My Review: 5 STARS

This was my first book by this author, and I am impressed.  I will definitely read more of her work.  This book is written in third person from a dual POV.

Isaac is one of the good guys, who became a cop to protect and serve after his time in the Marines.  I love that he is a red-haired hero.  Lauren is about to be a single mom when they first meet in the middle of a storm, on a gridlocked interstate, at a critical point in Lauren’s life.  I really appreciated the real life look at new motherhood through Lauren’s exhausted eyes.

The friendship they form from the beginning and the trust they place in each other leads to more very quickly.  The chemistry between them is combustible.  I had many moments where I laughed out loud at something the characters said or did.  They have a lot of heat in the bedroom.  Their friends and the support around them are entertaining and important.  There are a few twists along the way; some I could almost see coming and some I definitely did not.  I loved how Isaac fought for their relationship in the midst of their trial and that Lauren never stops loving him.  Their HEA is awesome in part because they must overcome to get there.  I experienced all of the emotions reading this story and I definitely recommend it.

Blurb:

Drawn together by the future, torn apart by the past.
Welcome to Seattle, the Emerald City and home to The Single Moms of Seattle. Three sexy single ladies who drink a ton of wine every Saturday night, bitch about life, have each other's backs, are the ultimate mama bears, and hope to one day, just maybe find love again.
This is Lauren's story ...

Being a single mom was never the plan for Lauren.
Neither was having a baby in a car all alone on a gridlocked interstate.
Thank goodness for sexy cops who are heroes even on their days off.

One of the good guys—or at least trying to be—Isaac can’t get the woman whose baby he helped deliver out of his head.
He sees it all with Lauren.
A life. A family. A future.
But superstition and a family curse have her rebuffing him, even though she looks at him with a need that mirrors his own.

When Lauren finally gives into her heart, the passion between them explodes.
Life isn’t just good, it’s great.
Until Isaac realizes their history was connected in a way he never expected.
He ruined her life without even knowing it.
Can he confess the truth to Lauren without hurting the one person who has finally made him feel human again? Without demolishing her world, and his, in the process?

**Note: This book can be read as a standalone. It includes lots of steamy scenes, cursing, a sexy alpha male, and of course as with all my books, this has an HEA and no cliffhanger or cheating. If you liked my single dad series, then you'll love this spin-off trilogy.

Excerpt:

Her throat bobbed on a sexy swallow as she sipped her wine, a bead of the merlot getting caught on her bottom lip. He wanted to lick it off or at the very least catch it with his thumb, but he resisted. She’d just put a barrier back between them, one he thought she’d torn down earlier. He needed to respect her boundaries.

But when her mouth twisted in such a way and that droplet clung to her lip, just calling to him, he said “fuck boundaries,” reached forward and swiped his thumb over her lip. “For the record,” he said, popping his thumb into his mouth, “you’re not damaged goods, as you said earlier. When my mom finally left my dad, I would have punched any person in the face who dared to call her damaged goods.”

Heat flashed in the blue of her eyes, and her bottom lip dropped open.

“I’ll respect your decision,” he said. “But just know, it’s not off the table for me … if you’re interested.”

She did nothing more than stare at him. But the flare of her nostrils and the widening of her eyes did all the talking for her.

Sitting up, he adjusted Ike on his lap. The baby didn’t so much as flinch. “But I’m okay with just a friendship too. This isn’t an ultimatum.”

“I’m only two weeks …” she whispered. “We can’t …”

Shifting again, he turned to face her. Ike remained deep in REM, his eyes behind his closed lids the only things moving, save for the rise and fall of his little chest. “And if it is something you want to explore, we can take things slow. I’m not a horny teenager that needs to jump into bed right away. We can get to know each other.”

She nibbled on her lip. “You’re saying all the right things, Isaac.” Her laugh was more of a throaty chortle as she turned her head. “I don’t even know your last name. Besides the fact that you’re a cop—a sergeant—you are single and childless and just adopted a kitten, I know nothing about you. And yet we’re discussing—sort of—the idea of becoming …”

“Fox.”

“Huh?”

“That’s my last name. Isaac James Fox.”

“You’re Foxy Sergeant Big Hands?” She shook her head and averted her eyes. “Of course you are.”

“Foxy Sergeant Big Hands?” he murmured. Did he miss something?

She sipped her wine. “Never mind.”

About the Author

A Canadian West Coast baby born and raised, Whitley is married to her high school sweetheart, and together they have two beautiful daughters and a fluffy dog. She spends her days making food that gets thrown on the floor, vacuuming Cheerios out from under the couch and making sure that the dog food doesn't end up in the air conditioner. But when nap time comes, and it's not quite wine o'clock, Whitley sits down, avoids the pile of laundry on the couch, and writes.

A lover of all things decadent; wine, cheese, chocolate and spicy erotic romance, Whitley brings the humorous side of sex, the ridiculous side of relationships and the suspense of everyday life into her stories. With single dads, firefighters, Navy SEALs, mommy wars, body issues, threesomes, bondage and role-playing, Whitley’s books have all the funny and fabulously filthy words you could hope for.

Book reviews for books read January 19th-24th

Happy weekend! I decided that since I hit 7 books this week I should just go ahead and push this out today. I will read at least one more today but you will see that review next week. I had a gap between ARCs! I went back and finished the Kings of Avalier series that I started in February 2024.  SO GOOD! They are new adult, which is not my norm, but the fantasy realm made them un-put-down-able. I am thrilled to meet the author in Phoenix in a couple of weeks. I read the next book in the J. Saman series I am making my way through. Those Abbot-Fritz brothers are something else. I adore that whole family. I read four novellas with 2 of those being new-to-me authors. Coco Miller's book was a fun billionaire read, and Regine Abel's Prime Mating Agency was GOLD. You will see in my review that I loved this first in series book, and I am super excited to read the rest of them. I read a wonderful mafia novella by Lee Savino. He is truly obsessed with the girl without it being a terri...

Book reviews for books read October 20th-31st

I read two arcs in the second part of October. They were both wonderful reads. Obviously, my personal life has impacted my reading as I only finished 5 books this month. I can't tell you when the last time was that I read so little. The positive part was all of the books I read this month were very good. Until next time, happy reading! Can't Believe You Came (Mile High Matched #5)  by Christina Hovland ARC: Release Date- 10/24/2025 #CinnamonRollHero #OppositesAttract #ARC I am voluntarily writing this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book. It is written in third person, can be read as a standalone, and ends with a HEA. I have loved this series from the beginning. It is wonderful to finally see the last Dvornakov get their HEA. Zach is a cinnamon roll hero to love. He falls first, fast, and hard for Piper. Piper, who is type A personified, does her best to control every situation she is in and Zach is an outlier. His calm and steady presence c...

Book reviews from the week of June 7th

The weekend is almost over as I type this but this is me running behind this week. What a week it has been! I have worked a lot at the job, the hubby had surgery, and we celebrated both my 33rd wedding anniversary and Father's Day.  I read one ARC, two books from my TBR, and one new-to-me author. I have found that after I read a really good book I need to read something a little different to get over the book hangover. That happened twice this week. After I finished the Harlow James ARC, I read an escort book by Leigh James that has been on my kindle for ages. After I read Lyndsey Gallagher's newest release, I started Escort Training which I think I picked up free a while back. That led me down a rabbit hole to reading the whole series. I have decided to review that whole series together as opposed to reviewing each book individually as they are really one story on three stages. It was a fabulous variety of reads this week and now I need to get serious and get back to ARCs. ...
