Book reviews from the week of September 20th

Love at First Light (Lost Harbor, Alaska #6) by Jennifer Bernard #OppositesAttract 5 STARS Book 6 in the Lost Harbor, Alaska series tells the story of Ethan (a facts and common-sense grumpy PI) and Jessica (the fun, optimistic, crystal carrying bakery owner.) Their story is written in third person from dual POV. Ethan is not sure what to make of Jessica when they have their first awkward meeting, and he jumps to a few incorrect conclusions. It doesn’t take long for Jessica to start unraveling those incorrect conclusions one by one. The more time they spend together, the more Ethan must reevaluate not only his beliefs about her, but also his beliefs about himself. I thoroughly enjoyed this opposites-attract love story. There are moments that are funny, steamy, emotional, and suspenseful. I love Jessica learning that she has more substance than she has even given herself credit for once she sees herself through Ethan’s eyes. I love Ethan admitting that he made wrong judgements as he ga

Seduced by Snowfall (Lost Harbor, Alaska #3) by Jennifer Bernard #FreiendsToLovers #FakeRelationship 5 STARS Dr. Bethany Morrison is new to Alaska. She has an interesting meeting with Nate, Lost Harbor's most eligible fireman. That meeting leads to dating, friendship, fake dating, and finally love. This is written in third person from dual POV. Bethany has a learning curve when she moves to Alaska, but Nate is helpful to her in the process. Nate is convinced that love and family is not for him and I loved reading as Bethany proved his theory wrong. They both have some family baggage that has to be overcome along the way to their HEA. This story packs heat, laughter, mystery, and a little drama. I loved continuing my journey with Lost Harbor's residents and I cannot wait to read more. The Duke I Tempted (The Secrets of Charlotte Street #1) by Scarlett Peckham #HistoricalRomance 5 STARS This may be the most interesting historical romance I have ever read. Archer is definitely a

Grumpy Fake Boyfriend by Jackie Lau  #FakeRelationship 4 STARS Will agrees to pose as Naomi's fake boyfriend for a long weekend with three other couples including her ex. Soon, emotions become all too real. This is complicated by Will's friendship with Naomi's brother, Jeremy. This is written in first person with a dual POV. Will is definitely an introvert. As a matter of fact, he reminds me a lot of my adult son. That ultimately gives me hope that he too can have a HEA someday despite his preference to stay home alone. Naomi is bubbly and social and I loved her confidence. I really enjoyed this book. It was my first time reading this author, but I felt like the characters and plot were tight. There was some humor as the characters bantered back and forth. There was also plenty of heat. I enjoyed the cultural references of Naomi and her friends. I love seeing a diverse character group in a book, and this one doesn't disappoint. I look forward to reading more by this aut
